Boris was sent to school today after a month of either being in hospital or recovering at home. To celebrate that he’s healthy again and that I have my free time back, I decided to go out and about and see where my feet take me.
Now, where there are feet there must be shoes as well and today I discarded comfort for beauty and took out my almost forgotten French pumps out of the wardrobe. I guess I wanted to feel a little special—there’s no way you can feel glam in your worn-out, flat footwear.
The said pumps:
They are really nothing special, but I got them in France many years ago when I visited Paris as a student, so they have sentimental value, I guess.
There’s a funny story about them, too—I got them on the last day of my stay there, when my friend Gohi and I stumbled upon a shoe store on a late Saturday afternoon. What’s a girl gotta do when she chances upon a store full of French shoes, and she happens to be living in a small town in Bulgaria where ugly platform pumps are de rigeur? Of course, my friend and I entered and were so dazzled by the choice that we lost sight of each other. Then we met at the cashier’s and realized that we both chose the same pair, which just goes to prove that it was the right choice to make.
We also realized that we ran out of our francs, and had no money to pay our metro ticket to the airport early next morning. Frantic search ensued for an exchange office that would still be open at this time of the day but it all ended well. I wonder if Gohi still has her pair.
All dressed up I went to get my cappuccino at Café Semiramis, my first in more than a month. It was divine. I sat by the window, watching old ladies buy groceries and jotting down ideas on increasing web traffic and growing an email list—topics close to the heart of this new media geek.
Then I was off to fetch Ruslan a belated birthday present—tickets for a concert of Argentinean tango music tonight. If it’s anything like Piazzola, it should be perfect. El Viento de Tango, here we come!
Finally, it was time to cross the river and go downtown, which is a different way to say that I went window shopping. Well, not just...
So, I hope you all had a great and productive day and wish everyone a great weekend!
definitely not proud to be an american

That's really cute Jelica. I have days like that myself. I am so happy to hear that Boris is doing well. Take care!
Oh and thanks for the link to Patrick's blog! I've never been linked before!
Hi Jelica
I am glad that your little treasure is once again well and back at school and also that you can spend some moments enjoying yourself in your blue pumps...
I found a Zara shop in Kyoto. I don't think we have them here...
Thanks, Jennifer! We had a tough month so it's time to relax a bit ;)
You have to post more often so that we can keep track of Patrick's adventures and maybe even glimpse the two of you in some of the pictures (of the thousands of pictures that we made since Boris was born, Ruslan and I appear in about a dozen--no exaggeration).
Unfortunately, Delwyn, there were no shoes this time in that Zara paper bag--just a couple of t-shirts to kick off the summer season.
I like Zara too although they don't always have the best selection. In fact I find them better stocked in other countries than the UK. You set me in the right mood for a little bit of shopping in Paris tomorrow. Lovely post. Have a good weekend.
I was actually thinking of you, Polly, when I was writing about that shoe shop in Paris--so many temptations awaiting you this weekend...
I'm so happy that Boris is now better!
And I think I should start to have this kind of moments for myself as well... do you know any good babysitter??? :) (I'm serious about the babysitter!!!)
I am so glad to hear that Boris is back in school! Women and our shoes...you were right to enjoy the day by choosing the perfect pair of shoes.
Oh, and I am VERY interested in the notes you jotted down!
